Module 8 — Leverage
Leverage lets you control a position larger than your account balance. At 1:100, $1,000 of your capital can control $100,000 of currency. The broker is effectively lending you buying power.
Leverage does not change your risk by itself. Your risk is set by position size and stop distance. What leverage does is make it possible to take a position so large that a normal market move wipes the account. That is why high leverage destroys undisciplined accounts — not because it is inherently dangerous, but because it removes the natural limit on size.
Key concepts
- Leverage increases available exposure
- Leverage does not create an edge
- Large exposure magnifies loss
Practical example
At 1:100 leverage, a small account can control a much larger position, but every pip still affects the full position.
Common mistake
Using maximum available leverage simply because the broker permits it.
