What Moves Gold
Module 5 — US Dollar Relationship
Gold is quoted in dollars, so the dollar is always one half of the price. A stronger dollar makes gold more expensive for holders of other currencies and typically pressures the price; a weaker dollar typically supports it.
The relationship is a tendency, not a rule. In periods of genuine crisis both the dollar and gold can rise together, because both are treated as safety. Watching the dollar index alongside XAUUSD gives useful context — but the chart in front of you remains the final authority.
Key concepts
- Gold is quoted in dollars
- The inverse relationship is a tendency
- Both may rise during stress
Practical example
Gold and the dollar can strengthen together when global demand for safety dominates.
Common mistake
Selling gold automatically whenever the dollar rises.
